Double K's Take: Athletes and Social Issues...

I personally did not get a chance to watch the ESPY’s myself, but i did watch sports center and His & Hers and First Take and i saw the stand that Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwayne Wade and LeBron James took against the violence not only in the Black Communities and Ghettos across the US. But as well they stand up for the violence against these communities, perpetrated by the very ones that are sworn to protect them. I cannot sit here and say that what these athletes did was good or bad or enough, all i can say is that i am proud that they took a stand for the downtrodden communities that exist in America today. Everyone seemed to be okay with this display of concern for black america, they seemed to like the call to action of everyone that was watching in the arena and at home. That seemed a lot more palatable in today’s America, the next guy…..not so much…

That guy would be the guy with the ridiculous fro and the attitude of a game changer, one MR Colin Kapernick. A couple of weeks ago Kap decided that he was tired of the treatment of Blacks and POC in this country. What he did about it was just sit down, just plain sit down during the playing of the National Anthem….i'm going to say that again sit down during the National Anthem. This caused an uproar as people called him un american and everything else under the sun. I personally agreed with his stand once i heard what he sat down four i agreed 100%. But let's put my personal feelings aside for now and look at the message that this young man is trying to send as more people begin to join him. Hids message is that he wants the country he is so proud to live in to do better. The same thing we have asking of this country when it comes to its treatment of non caucasian people to ….do better. Evidently according to the backlash he has received is a message that this country was not ready to hear...
